Elizabeth Pennington, a Programmes and Communications Specialist with  Women Agency for Resilience and Transformation (WART – South Sudan) has called for more funding to address the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan.

She feared that the humanitarian crisis in the country may get worse without more funding.

“There were demonstrations in the IDP camp today in #Rubkona County, Unity State 🇸🇸. The food distribution didn’t happen today; in fact it hasn’t happened for a while. There isn’t any food and there won’t be until further notice,” she said adding that “people here can’t cultivate the land because of the flooding. With increasing numbers of refugees and returnees to the area who have fled unthinkable violence and abuses; now they are met with strained resources. Fruits, vegetables & other nutritional foods all have to come from the capital city of Juba, which is expensive to transport.”

She further said that “#SouthSudan 🇸🇸 is a country on a knife-edge of a deepening humanitarian crisis which will only get worse if more funding isn’t issued. The fact of the matter is that humanitarian operations cost more, meaning we can do less.”
