Italian authorities issue contradicting information about distressed boat
LouiseMichel an organization that combines sea rescue with the principles of feminism, anti-racism and anti-facism has told of how Italian authorities gave contradicting information its team working to rescue distressed migrants on the sea.
Speaking about the their experience with the Italian authorities, LouiseMichel said: “After informing the Italian authorities, they instructed us to look for the boat. Late at night, they retracted their order and told us to abandon the search for the boat as it wasn’t at sea anymore.”
In spite of the Italian authorities conflicting instructions, LouiseMichel didn’t give up the search. It was determined to save the lives in the distressed boats.
Continuing, the organisation said: “After nearly 12 hours of searching, Louise Michel embarked another 44 people from a very unstable rubber boat late at night. The emergency hotline Alarmphone reported earlier about the boat in distress and also informed our crew.
“Several people are suffering from fuel burns from the gasoline in the boat. As the weather is getting worse, we are more than glad that all survivors are now safely on board our ship and can hopefully rest a little bit.”
Elated by the rescue, LouiseMichel said: “It was a massive relief when the boat was then finally spotted by Frontex aircraft Osprey 2, who called the Louise Michel. Our crew is now on its way with 68 guests on board to our assigned safe port, Trapani.”
