Mediterranean remains the deadliest border, says LouiseMichel
LouiseMichel, an organization that aims to combine sea rescue with the principles of feminism, anti-racism amen anti-facism has described the Mediterranean as the deadliest border in the world.
According to the organization, over 2,000 people have been confirmed dead or missing in the Mediterranean this year.
The statement reads: “The 3rd Rotation this year of the #LouiseMichel is over and the crew for the next one is already training to go out again. During the last weeks, we witnessed again the deadly consequences of Europe’s Border violence.
“After the rescue of 33 people who had spent 10 (!) days on a metal boat in the middle of the sea, we made another devastating discovery. Close to an empty wooden boat, our crew spotted the body of a woman.
“We were conflicted about whether to publish this picture, but we decided that it is necessary to show the reality of the situation in the #Mediterranean, and the true consequences that the brutal European border policy has.
Every death, as a result of the lack of safe routes by which people can move, is the story of a person with a past: hopes, dreams, family and friends. Every single death is one too many.
The Mediterranean remains the deadliest border in the world with over 2000 people confirmed dead or missing just this year, although the true number is likely to be higher.
