A Libyan activist, Amera Markous, has expressed concern about the UK denying her visa for a second time.

Armed with her rich travelling records, Amera approached the UK embassy for visa but was shocked that the UK would refuse to give her visa, not just once but on two good occasions.

Lamenting her experience, Amera said: “I got my 2nd refusal for #Uk visa and it is very disturbing! Like what do you mean you’re not satisfied that I’m genuinely seeking entry as a visitor & that I intend to leave the UK? My profile & travel history is more than enough to prove I’m never interested in seeking asylum!
1) I went back home after my masters in Switzerland in 2019 during the war on #Tripoli, the airport was literally bombed & shut on the day of my trip and no I didn’t seek asylym
2) I have close family members in UK with good record, there on business, who never seeked asylum.
3) I work with INGOs & have many privileges that allow me to travel to Europe & many countries all the time, and I NEVER seeked asylum.”

Continuing, she asked rhetorically: “Then why on earth would you still fear people like me? How could you judge our “intent” based solely on our nationality & not allow for appeal!”
Consoling Amera, a researcher who goes by the name Jihed on Twitter said: “Absolutely gutted to hear this, Amera.😡 It’s maddening how broken and inherently biased the visa system can be.Keep your head up and don’t let this define your journey. The right opportunities will come inshallah.”
