1,335 people including migrants from  Nigeria, Benin Republic

Burkina Faso, Cameroon,

Ivory Coast, among others have been  deported from Algeria to Niger.

The deportations happened in two days between July 15 and 16.

This was contained in a situation report released by AlarmephoneS on mass deportations of migrants from Algeria – facilitated by the EU.

AlarmephoneS said: “We continue to observe #deportations from #Algeria to the northern border of #Niger: During 15 and 16 July, a total of 1,335 (!!) people were deported to #PointZero and to #Assamaka. The incidents are worrying. The humanitarian crisis is the direct result of the mass deportations of migrants from Algeria – facilitated by the EU – and the cessation or reduction of services previously provided by IOM in Assamaka.

“APS therefore calls for an immediate halt to the deportations! Specifically, on 15/7/2023, 919 migrants were deported from trucks at the border

at #PointZero, who marched to Assamaka early in the morning and come from the following countries:

Benin: 31

Burkina Faso: 21

Cameroon: 23

Ivory Coast: 56

Gambia: 200

Ghana: 2

Guinea/Conakry: 242

Guinea Bissau: 4

Liberia: 2

Mali: 227

Nigeria: 17

Senegal: 58

Sierra Leone: 25

Syria: 8

Togo: 3

The 8 Syrian nationals were turned back into Algerian territory after arriving in Niger.

“In addition, on 16/7/23 citizens from Niger (412), Benin (2), Gambia (1) and Mali (1) were deported in an official convoy to #Assamaka…- among them also women and minors. As APS, we demand that the state of Niger, the international community and national and international organisations take measures to protect migrants as quickly as possible!”
