Carthage deal involves selling rights, dignity, sovereignty of migrants
The Carthage deal that saw the EU and Tunisia signing an agreement of about €1billion to stem the challenge of irregular migration has continued to receive more condemnation.
This time, the condemnation is coming Jihed, a researcher based in Milan. The deal, Jihed said involves selling rights, dignity, and sovereignty of migrants.
He said: “#StopExternalisation of European border regime in #Tunisia🛑
Today ‘s Carthage deal is a grave concern, as it involves selling the rights, dignity, and sovereignty of migrants, especially Tunisians. This unjust practice must be condemned and challenged.”
Jihed said being a #Tunisian in the Schengen area is becoming increasingly precarious, with the slightest administrative error risking #deportation. “Sorting migrants based on identity perpetuates discrimination and denies basic human rights.
“It’s disheartening to see #Europe providing resources for expulsion, including stigmatization and hate speech against people on the move. These should never be part of any ‘weapons’ used to target vulnerable individuals.
“In return, #Tunisia offers its skilled youth, contributing to the European economy for free under the guise of “Organized Migration.” This must not be allowed to continue, as it exploits the talents of our nation.
“Supporting policies that humiliate Tunisians is unacceptable. Accessing rights should not be met with obstacles or resistance. Transparency about the deal’s execution is crucial; secrecy raises concerns about human rights violations.”
