369 detainees in Kufra battling malnutrition, infectious skin diseases

About 369 migrants including women and children in DCIM Immigration Detention and Deportation Center in Kufra are suffering from severe malnutrition, infectious skin diseases, bacterial infections, fractures, burns and deep wounds due to exposure to torture and beatings by human traffickers, Migrant Rescue Watch says.

 The organization noted that  Libyan Red Crescent in response to humanitarian call for assistance dispatched a medical convoy to DCIM Immigration Detention and Deportation Center in Kufra. “A team of doctors with staff provided medical assistance and treatment to 369 #migrants including women and children currently held in the center. During medical examination cases of severe malnutrition, infectious skin diseases, bacterial infections, fractures, burns and deep wounds due to exposure to torture and beatings by human traffickers were detected.”

Some acute cases, according to the post were transferred to hospital for treatment. “A number of #migrants who were recently freed by DCIM from the hands of traffickers were kept in sub-human conditions and spent up to 2 years in captivity due to inability of paying demanded by traffickers ransom.”
