Greek Coast Guard started covering evidence 24 hours after shipwreck
Bashar Deeb ,a Digital investigator at LHreports has shared information about their investigation into the shipwreck that claimed hundreds of lives near Pylos. He said: “Multiple testimonies and court documents gathered & analyzed by @LHreports &partners indicate that the Greek Coast Guard was towing the boat that capsized killing 100s near Pylos. Also suggest evidence was tampered with 2 exonerate the coastguard of any responsibility. Since the June 14 shipwreck, we conducted 17 separate interviews with survivors, 16 of them told us that the capsizing was a result of the LS920 of the Hellenic Coast Guard towing them. Number 17 was not on the deck so he didn’t witness it.
“Now, while we cannot say with absolute certainty that the Greek coastguard was towing the boat, we can reveal that less than 24 hours after the shipwreck the coastguard had already started covering up its role in the events that led to the shipwreck.
That night 9 survivors gave statements to the coastguard in Kalamata, none of them directly attributed the capsizing to being towed. Over the next 2 days, the same nine people gave statements to a Greek prosecutor, 6 of them say the coastguard did tow & capsize the boat.
“We obtained/analysed all the statements, and found that crucial parts in four of them, were almost totally identical to each other, these are the parts where the survivors are asked about the reason for the shipwreck. All four were from the first set of testimonies.
These 4 statements were interviews conducted by 3 different interpreters, one of them was an actual coastguard officer. 2 survivors told us that what they said during the questioning wasn’t represented in their final statement.
