The Nigeria Immigration Service says it is considering home delivery of passports to physical addresses of applicants.

The NIS made the remark in response to a twitter user’s query on the above.

The twitter user, tweeting @accoid had asked: “Why is it impossible for federal government to dispatch Nigerian passports to applicants’ physical address? @nigimmigration you don’t create a bribery avenue for civil servants and cry about corruption! Commit Nigerians into having a valid physical address. Address is everything.”
Responding, the NIS said: “This is been (being) considered. However, we have come to understand that people contract supposed “plugs” to handle their passport application process. Some of whom, in haste, fill random or most times, incomplete details for “their applicants”.

“Imagine having to dispatch a very sensitive document – the Nigerian passport – to any address or an address wherein the applicant no longer occupies/resides or to the personal home address of the middlemen aka “plugs” who filled the form on their behalf.Catastrophic!”

Continuing, the NIS said: “On our part however, based on the directive of the Ag. CG, Caroline Wuroola Adepoju fsi pcc+, we have taken the initiative to begin physical address verification while also calling applicants via the mobile number(s) provided on their e-application forms.

“We are thus using this opportunity to again, appeal to Nigerians to ALWAYS provide us with accurate information when filling out their e-application forms.”
