EU Home Affairs Commissioner, others celebrate refugees

As the world celebrates World Refugees Day today, EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johannson, together with other stakeholders has spoken about the need to protect refugees from persecution. 

The EU Home Affairs Commissioner said Refugees have the right to receive international protection from persecution and war.

Her words: “The EU is building a fair and functional asylum system, through the Migration Pact.

As tragic events in the Mediterranean show, saving lives must be our first priority. #WorldRefugeeDay.”

Abolishfrontex said: “Today on World Refugee Day, we demand independent investigations into the shipwreck off Pylos, consequences for those responsible, an end to the systematic pushbacks at the EU borders, and justice for the victims.”
