Maiden hearing in criminal trial concerning Cutro shipwreck adjourned
The first hearing in the criminal trial concerning the Cutro shipwreck, held today, January 14, was immediately postponed to January 30, 2026, following the formal assignment of the case to a new panel of judges, Sea Watch International said in a post on its verified X handle @seawatch_intl.
It said: “Although the postponement is limited to two weeks, this decision requires all parties involved to reorganize their activities. The NGOs involved in sea rescue, which are civil parties in the proceedings, strongly hope that this postponement will not affect the ability of the victims’ families to be present.
“We believe it is essential that the management of the trial takes full account of their needs and guarantees their right to effective participation.”
