SOS Humanity (International) rescues 70 distressed people, seeks support to send a second rescue ship to the Mediterranean
SOS Humanity (international) has rescued 70 distressed people after a distress call by Alarm Phone.
The organization announced this while seeking support to send a second rescue ship to the Mediterranean for more rescue operations.
The message reads: “After a distress call from Alarmphone, we were able to rescue > 70 people today – incl. women, children & a baby – from an unseaworthy wooden boat. They had been at sea for over 24h in bad weather conditions, with a broken engine & no life-saving equipment.The exhausted, hypothermic, and seasick survivors are receiving care on board as we make our way to the assigned port in Lampedusa.”
