Sea Watch International, an organization that  saves lives in the Mediterranean Sea, accused  Libyan militia boats of illegally forcing two boats with dozens of people in distress back to Libya.

Sea Watch made the allegation in a post on its X handle.

The post reads: “Dangerous mass interception: Our Sea-Watch 5 just witnessed how six (!) Libyan militia boats – funded by EU – illegally forced two boats with dozens of people in distress back to Libya. Some people were in the water.

“The militias claim they “recovered” the people. But that was not a rescue. This was state-sponsored kidnapping at sea. While we could have rescued them & bring them to a port of safety with our Sea-Watch 5, the people now face abuse, violence, and detention in Libya.”
