“Developments at the Agadez Humanitarian Center today, May 17, 2025.

Today, a surprise, unannounced visit was made to the refugees at the Agadez Humanitarian Center.

The center was visited by the Governor of Agadez and the Sultan of Agadez.

An official from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), possibly the Director of the IOM Office in Niger, was also present. A number of officials, including the Director of the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Director of the Office, a number of staff, the Director of the Gendarmerie Office (CNE), a number of senior police officers, the Director of the Adcol organization, and a number of Red Germany employees.

The surprise visit to the center in the morning surprised us with the presence of a large number of police officers, knowing that today is Saturday, which is a holiday in Niger. We waited until 9:50 a.m. Staff from Adcol, Adcol, Red Germany, and the CNE (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) arrived. They did not speak to us, while we were holding our daily peaceful protest. We tried to find out the reason for their unusual presence. A number of police officers and employees received information from some refugees in the city that the governor might be visiting the humanitarian center after their arrival. We were surprised to find that it wasn’t just the governor, but that the visitors included representatives from the IOM, UNHCR, and the Sultan. They didn’t explain the reason for the visit. However, when the Sultan spoke in Hausa, he said that they had made some decisions and that the International Organization for Migration had approved these decisions. These decisions include dividing the refugees into groups: one group affiliated with the UNHCR, and another group that will be deported to their countries. The refugees’ countries are safe.”
