This morning, 156 survivors left our ship in the port of La Spezia, a notification by Sea Watch International said.

Over the past four days, it said, “we have done everything we could to provide them with the best possible care. We are relieved that they are now all ashore, but our anger at the challenges they continue to face remains.

“The Italian government and the EU continue to impose inhumane measures, stripping these people of their rights to get rid of them as quickly as possible. We wish them all the strength in their continued fight.”

After the feat, Sea Watch International said: “Our crew will now prepare to get back into rescuing as soon as possible again. We won’t rest until everyone has the freedom and safety to go where they need and want to go.”
