Reggio Calabria court declares detention of Sea-Eye 4 unlawful
A court in Reggio Calabria has declared the 60-day detention if Sea-Eye 4 unlawful.
Seebrüecke International who announced the court verdict saw it as a victory for togetherness.
“Solidarity Wins!,” It says, adding “In a hearing on Wednesday, the court in Reggio Calabria declared the 60-day detention of the Sea-Eye 4 to be unlawful. The 60-day detention was the longest administrative detention of a sea rescue vessel based on the Piantedosi Decree to date.
“The judgement thus clearly shows the abuse of power by the authorities in the detentions. Rescue ships are being kept away from the area of operation for as long as possible through detentions and the allocation of distant harbours. This puts human lives at risk.
“The blockade and obstruction of civilian ships must be ended! The Piantedosi Decree must be abolished! Safe passage and freedom of movement for all people are finally needed!”
