President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen’s visit to Lebanon is aimed at preventing Syrian refugees, displaced in Lebanon, from reaching Europe, SOS Mediterranee has alleged.

SOS International said the European Commission’s deal with Lebanon is worth $1million.

The statement reads: “TeamEurope spirit: fueling border violence and death. The latest deal with #Lebanon in the Middle East has one sole goal: isolation. It’s yet another check for EU’s politics to prevent people from fleeing to the #EU, just like with #Tunisia, #Libya and #Egypt.

“A visit from 🇪🇺 commissioner, Von der Leyen to Lebanon resulted in a $1M deal, starting this summer, aimed at preventing Syrian refugees, displaced in Lebanon, from reaching Europe. @hrw reported the daily harassment, violence & discrimination faced by Syrian refugees in Lebanon.”

Sea Watch International noted that:”Last year’s violent raids by the Lebanese Armed Forces in refugees camps underline: Lebanon is not safe for people on the move.

” Threatened with arrest, detention, deportation, they are forced to flee and risk their lives at sea, in search of safety in Europe.”
