LFJL laments crackdown on CSOs
Lawyers for Justice in Libya (LFJL) has decried crackdown on Civil Society Organisations in Libya.
In a post on its X handle said: “In response to today’s briefing on #Libya by #ICC Prosecutor @KarimKhanQC at the #UNSC, LFJL expresses its disappointment at the lack of concrete progress on the Libya situation, such as no clear update on arrest warrants, including those yet to be unsealed.
“While we welcome the Court’s efforts to engage civil society, LFJL remind them that #CSOs + #HRDs in Libya face an ongoing crackdown + reprisals, including for cooperating with the ICC. The Prosecutor has failed to publicly call on Libya to ensure their safety.
“We are also very concerned about the Prosecutor’s plans to complete investigative activities in Libya by 2025. While serious int’l crimes are ongoing in Libya and perpetrators continue to enjoy impunity, an expiry date on the Court’s investigations sends the wrong message.”
