SOS Humanity International condemns detention of SeaEye4
SOS Humanity International has condemned the detention of SeaEye4 by the Italian authorities.
It said: “The detention of the #SeaEye4 this week, under spurious pretexts with no basis in international law, means rescue ships of the civil fleet have been detained for 230 days in total this year so far.
“The systematic obstruction of rescue ships by the Italian government keeps them out of the search and rescue zone where they are most needed. This is despite the fact that 2023 is the deadliest year in the central #Mediterranean since 2017.
“The detention order and the fine have no basis in international law,” says Prof. Valentin Schatz of the @Leuphana University of Lüneburg. We stand in solidarity with @seaeyeorg and the rest of the civil fleet and call on #Italy to end the obstruction of humanitarian aid!”
